The comprehensive redevelopment of St. John’s House includes:

  • Demolition of the existing return to maintain the street frontage and provide area for new construction behind
  • Retention and the reorganisation of the front part of St. John’s House along the Merrion Road
  • Construction of a new three storey development at the rear to increase the number of residents from the current level of 45 beds to 56

The new building will provide:

  • 53 purpose built bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms (50 single and 3 double)
  • All bedrooms will be on the upper floors so they will be secure and benefit from better light and views
  • Dining rooms and living rooms as well as a number of quiet rooms and activity rooms will be located throughout the building
  • Hairdressing and therapy rooms will be located on the ground floor
  • A dedicated medical suite will be centrally located on the ground floor
  • A café, with direct access to a secure south facing garden, will be available to residents and visitors
  • The concourse will open onto a secure cloister garden with the chapel as a central feature where residents can enjoy the open area in a sheltered and secure space
  • A large roof terrace at first floor level will provide a sheltered outdoor space that overlooks the landscaped chapel garden
